Kevin Porter Jr. avoids prison

Accused of having attacked his partner, Kevin Porter Jr. reached a “ plea agreement » with the prosecutor in a Manhattan court. Equivalent to “plead guilty” present in French law, this measure allows him to negotiate his sentence, and in this case, to avoid prison. Instead, the former Rockets guard will have to follow a program for a year.

“This resolution will allow Mr. Porter to put this incident, which involved false criminal allegations and inaccurate facts, behind him. He will have no criminal record and will be able to move forward,” his lawyers, Phillip Jobe and Stephanie Kelemen, said in a statement.

His ex-girlfriend reconsiders his statements

Porter Jr. had been arrested on September 11, 2023, in a Manhattan hotel, accused of strangling and repeatedly hitting Kysre Gondrezick, a former WNBA player, now his ex-girlfriend.

At the time, prosecutors said Gondrezick was discovered with a bloody face by hotel employees. During her testimony, she told police that Porter hit her with a closed fist, causing a gash above her right eye. Accusations that she then refuted. “My injuries do not confirm any of these statements”the player explained to the New York Post. “He didn’t hit me. He never closed his fists to hit me. And he certainly didn't punch me in the face multiple times. It's a lie. I don’t have any injury that proves any of that.”

Transferred by the Rockets to the Thunder, then cut, Porter Jr. will therefore be able to resume his career in a year, at the end of this program.
