Kevin Durant thinks his record will be broken

For many, he is the best basketball player in the history of the Olympic Games, and in Paris, Kevin Durant won a 4th gold medal. The best scorer in the history of Team USA, men and women combined, he is also the leader in shooting, free throws and 3-pointers. In detail, that gives 518 points scored in 28 games played at the Olympics, and he is now 160 points ahead of his runner-up, a certain LeBron James.

“I can see someone beating that mark,” Durant assures us. “Records are meant to be broken. My goal every time is to represent my country, my state, my street, my family. And to help move the sport forward. Since I’ve been here, that’s what we’ve done.”

Passing the torch

For Bam Adebayo, who won two gold medals alongside Durant, the Suns winger is untouchable. “He left his mark as the greatest basketball player in the Olympics. He etched his name at the top.” estimates the Heat pivot. “It's going to be a long time before someone breaks that record. I'm happy for him. I'm proud of him. He doesn't lose sight of what's important, and he continues to play basketball the way he should.”

Absent from the top five of the competition, Durant consoled himself with a 4th gold medal, an absolute record for a basketball player. For him, it's about passing on to the next generation. “We're building on what the Dream Team did in 1992. We've taken over. That was the main goal.” he recalls.

Will he still do it in 2028 in Los Angeles, when LeBron James and Stephen Curry are no longer there? “Who knows… we’ll see…” he replied, when he turns 39. LeBron James' current age.
