As Nikola Jokic went to greet new Suns owner Mat Ishbia ahead of Game 5, tempers flared further between the Suns and Nuggets. This time, it was at the very end of the 3rd quarter, while the Nuggets were leading by around twenty points. As the Suns gathered at the time of a free throw, Bruce Brown and Nikola Jokic went to “spy” on them and Kevin Durant did not like it. To the point of jostling Jokic, and receiving a technique.
“There was absolutely nothing serious… They were excited. They had a big lead, and we were trying to design a system. You know how it goes. For me, it was nothing…” explains Kevin Durant.
Monty Williams asks the NBA to crack down
After reviewing the images, the referees also stuck a technique to Bruce Brown, who had attacked the substitutes.
“Durant was in the reaction… I don’t know why Bruce reacted like that, because if he hadn’t reacted, we had a free throw to shoot. As he reacted, we had no free throws. So, actually, I resent Bruce” laughs Jokic.
Asked about this “espionage”, Jokic defends himself: “It was just to see the system. I think it can be very useful.”
A process that does not delight Monty Williams, and he would like the NBA to monitor this behavior more closely. “She has to take care of that… There’s too much nonsense in the NBA with that. Everybody does it, and there should be a rule that you can’t go near a gathering of opposing players.”
