Kelly Oubre Jr. stays with the Sixers for two seasons

The Sixers are moving quickly in this “free agency”. After densifying its back lines with the signing of Eric Gordon, and finding an experienced backup in Joel Embiid with Andre Drummond, Philadelphia obtained the contract extension of Kelly Oubre Jr. Précieux last season for his first exercise in Pennsylvania, the winger will sign a two-year lease for just over $16 million informs ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The second season of this new lease is the subject of a “ player option“. This contract at a very reasonable rate, especially with the increase in the maximum salary, gives the Sixers some room and flexibility, which they could very much need. Philadelphia is in pole position in the race to sign Paul George, whom they met in Los Angeles on Sunday night.

Kelly Oubre had blended in well with the Sixers squad under the orders of Nick Nurse with his ability to spread the game and create his points to relieve Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey in sequences. The former Charlotte or Golden State player had expressed his desire to stay in Philadelphia. “ I feel like there is work to be done and a lot of work ahead to get better and get back to where the fans have been waiting for us for a long time. ” he explained after his team was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs against the Knicks.

Player option : possibility for a player to activate (or not) the last year of his contract, in order to finish his lease or become a “free agent” one year early.
