Two small games. Keegan Murray will only play two small Summer League games this summer, with the Kings saying he will be training with the team in Las Vegas but will not be taking part in the games.
It’s probably better for opponents, rookies or players looking for an NBA contract, because the Sacramento sophomore appeared far too strong during his two outings. After scoring 29 points in 31 minutes against Golden State in his first game, he did even better with 41 points (11/20 including 6/11 from afar, plus 13/15 from free throws), 5 rebounds but also 4 blocks in the victory (95-83) against Miami.
Already empowered for his first NBA campaign, will Keegan Murray take a new step?
This is the feeling in Sacramento, where we dared to compare Kawhi Leonard’s progress. From what he showed in the Summer League, Keegan Murray indeed seems more comfortable creating his shot out of the dribble.
The level is not the same as against “real” NBA players, and this progress will have to be confirmed next season, but if the winger becomes capable of creating good shots on almost every possession, keeping his balance after having obtained a little space in front of his defender, it is the Kings who will pass a course.
