Deprived of the field for 22 days at the end of the regular season and Game 1 of the playoffs due to inflammation of the right knee, Kawhi Leonard was able to play 35 minutes then 25 minutes during Games 2 and 3 lost by the Clippers. The day after the 101-90 defeat conceded to Dallas, the Californian franchise had to communicate on the state of health of its major player, uncertain due to… inflammation of the right knee!
His knee, already operated on in the summer of 2021, is simply not reacting as the staff and player would have hoped, leading Tyronn Lue to sail on sight again until Game 4 tonight.
“He continues to deal with inflammation and swelling. So we're monitoring that. He received treatment last night, again this morning and will continue this evening”, said Tyronn Lue in particular before yesterday's training. “For the moment, he is doubtful for Game 4. I think we have to do what is good for him. I speak with the medical staff, I speak with him, to see how he feels, and we will see from there.”
Déjà vu in Los Angeles…
For the Clippers, it's an unfortunate feeling of déjà vu, as Steve Ballmer's protégés have been disrupted by injuries to their major players in recent years, whether in the regular season or in the playoffs. Tyronn Lue will therefore have to wait, in the hope of good news. But this is clearly not the best way to approach a decisive match, even if the former leader has already had to manage these situations.
“If he’s in pain and he can’t go, he can’t play.”he summarized, before mentioning a possible restriction of minutes if Kawhi Leonard were to be declared fit. “That’s to be determined. There will always be a restriction. It’s always going to be about making sure we do the right thing for him until he’s 100 percent.”
For their part, the Mavs also placed Luka Doncic as “doubtful” for Game 4 due to right knee soreness. But Jason Kidd dispelled any uncertainty by announcing that the Slovenian would be present…
