Juwan Howard is no longer Michigan's coach

End of the adventure for Juwan Howard on the bench Michigan (NCAA). As announced by the university in a press release, the former member of the famous “Fab Five” will not return for a sixth season, while the Wolverines remain on one of the worst campaigns in their history: 8 victories and 24 defeats, for a 14th and last place in the Big Ten conference (3-17).

Appointed in 2019 at the head of his former university, with which he played two Final Four in the early 1990s, Juwan Howard then extended for five more years in 2021, a few months after being crowned Coach of the Year. Former Heat assistant (2013-19), his name was then mentioned on the Lakers side in 2022, without it going any further.

Didn't go beyond the Elite Eight

During his five years at Michigan, first synonymous with progress then ended on a bad note, Juwan Howard accumulated 87 victories and 72 defeats. Without, however, managing to take its university beyond theElite Eight (2021), the season in which the Wolverines will have finished first in the Big Ten conference.

Unfortunately, the former All-Star interior, double NBA champion will also have distinguished himself negatively in the NCAA. Notably when he attacked a Wisconsin assistant in 2022, triggering a general fight and earning him a suspension until the end of the season.

Having undergone heart surgery in September 2023 and then returning a few weeks later, Juwan Howard will in any case leave with $3 million in compensation. It remains to be seen where it will bounce from now on.
