Juwan Howard had heart surgery

The secret had been well kept at the University of Michigan, where the Wolverines coach, Juwan Howardhad to have heart surgery at the Samuel and Jean Frankel Cardiovascular Center.

The university communicated good news yesterday, ensuring that the operation was successful. Long planned, the procedure aimed to remove an aortic aneurysm and repair an aortic valve.

Aged 50, the former interior player has now been coach of his “alma mater” since 2019, after ending his NBA career with two championship titles with Miami (2012-2013), where he then learned the trade as an assistant by Erik Spoelstra for six years.

The University of Michigan added that the former member of the “Fab Five” will now observe four to six weeks of complete rest before returning to his team.

His recovery will then be evaluated over the following six weeks in order to designate the precise date of his return to the bench. During his convalescence, his first assistant, Phil Martelli, will act as interim manager.
