Julius Randle still can’t do it… and Tom Thibodeau is getting annoyed

The matches follow one another and are similar for Julius Randle. And the picture continues to be very dark. The interior of the Knicks is stuck in a difficult start to the season where he cannot find his way to the circle. Latest example with his match against the Bucks.

He finished it with 16 points at 5/20 shooting including a terrible 1/9 at 3-pts. “I’m just not in rhythm. Everything seems off the mark”he confides to New York Post.

As always with the two-time All-Star, there are the numbers and the field. Against Milwaukee, he was sometimes open, notably at 3-points, with Giannis Antetokounmpo who put little pressure on him since he has been in a tough situation since the start of the season. Julius Randle therefore chained missed open shots throughout the game. It’s then difficult to regain confidence…

Tom Thibodeau sends a message to his player

Then, there are the bad choices he is accustomed to making. He finds himself with shots at the end of possession, makes life difficult sometimes, and too often forces himself. Like at the end of the game, where he attempted two shots against Antetokounmpo and Brook Lopez near the circle. He is even picked by the pivot on the second.

The Most Improved Player 2021 is at 27% shooting success after six matches and that is starting to annoy Tom Thibodeau. “If we’re open, we shoot. If there are three players on you, you find the teammate who is free. It’s not complicated. You have to trust the pass,” comments the coach, without targeting Randle directly but with words that leave little room for doubt.

As each poor performance will weigh down Julius Randle’s morale, how can we quickly finally get out of the trap?

“I can play more without the ball, more in movement,” he announces. “Do less isolation and more pick-and-roll. And therefore fewer situations where I catch the ball and look at the defenders in front of me. »
