Josh Green, the symbol of Australia's rough basketball

On the match sheet of Australia's victory over Spain (92-80), one line jumps out at you. That of Josh Green who did not score a single point in 22 minutes of play. He thus took only three shots during the opening match of the Olympic tournament, without ever hitting the target.

Except that Australia's 6th man still played a big role in the Boomers' domination, and one figure proves it: his +/- of +17.

“We play a style of game where I have no problem not having shots on offense and still having an impact.”, estimates the future Hornets winger. “We have a very talented team and I'm able to do a lot of things to impact the game. It's actually similar to my role with the Mavericks. I just do the little things for the good of the team.”

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in the crosshairs

It was also in the energy and physical impact that Josh Green stood out during the first meeting of the Games. Sometimes a little too much, since things had started to heat up with Usman Garuba.

“For me, it's just about trying to create a spark and bring energy. It gets the fans involved and it gives us energy.” he confided about this clash. “We pride ourselves on playing physical and playing tough basketball, so I think that's part of the game. I have respect for his game, he just tried to change the dynamic and bring energy.”

For the second match of these Games, Josh Green should find Dante Exum at his side to face a big client, Canada. He will be reunited with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, whom he knows well since they met in the conference semifinals.

“He has so many options in his game. He's very good at getting to the free throw line. He's very quick and agile, he has a great mid-range game and yeah, he's incredible.”says Josh Green.
