Josh Giddey remains at the heart of Billy Donovan's project for the Bulls

In the infirmary for a few matches, Josh Giddey hasn't exploded this season with the Bulls. Still weighed down by his external clumsiness and his defense, the Australian has not established himself as the future of Chicago.

“I definitely feel like there is a learning curve for him, with our team, because one of his main strengths is his passing quality” explains Billy Donovan, his coach. “The defense, he progressed throughout the matches. The five or six games before his injury, he was really impacting the team in a positive way, as he was starting to figure things out, and so I'm sure he can be an important piece for us. »

Recovered ahead of the season from Oklahoma City, in exchange for Alex Caruso, Josh Giddey (22 years old, 2m03) will be a protected “free agent” at the end of the season. And the Bulls will therefore have to decide whether they keep him or not…

“Like I said, before his injury, he was creating a lot of good shots for Coby (White), Zach (LaVine) or Nikola (Vucevic), as well as a lot of our players on the outside,” continues Billy Donovan. “And I definitely think that for guards whose main strength is passing, when they come into a new situation, it really takes time for other players to adjust to what he's doing, and vice versa.” continues Billy Donovan.

But the coach maintains that there is progress, and that he had seen it clearly before his player's injury.
