On the field or on the bench, the attitude of Jordan Poole is already debated. While some predicted a “James Harden-like” future for him at the Wizards, the former 6th man of the Warriors is slowly averaging 16 points with worrying percentages: 41% on shots, including 30% on 3-pointers. All while losing three balls per match, in less than 30 minutes, in a clearly casual style.
Between first intention shots, an unsure defensive withdrawal or even derogatory remarks during a time-out, his “highlights” at the start of the season resemble more of a blooper than a Top 10, and on Wednesday evening, he specifically mentioned this video taken by a spectator where we see him snubbing a time-out.
“It’s social media… There’s not much we can do about it except go out there and play our game and be who we are.” Poole responds about this sequence that went viral. “We must not let ourselves be fooled by this sort of thing. There will always be something. Someone will always find something to invent. Stories can be misinterpreted. But as long as the people who are close to you, the people who know you, the people you spend your time with like coaches and players know who you are as a person, that’s all that matters. »
In search of consistency
Sitting alongside Bilal Coulibaly In a press conference, Poole spoke about his skill problems, and he remains confident. “My shot selection is good. I have confidence in finding my shots” he continues. “We are still understanding the rotations, finding the cohesions and the systems that we want to put in place. These are just some schematic elements that we’re trying to figure out with the guys on the ground. As far as shots go, the shots are good, they’re just going to fall in… It’s a long season.”
And what does he think about being targeted on offense, and having the best outside defender on his back every night?
“There is nothing new… For two years, I have had the 2nd best opposing defender on me, if not the best… I try to know where my teammates want the ball, and how they can be effective . I’m just trying to understand how to do it. I’m trying to figure out how to play consistently, over and over again, making the right move. We’re trying to build the foundations.”
