Jordan Clarkson is not on the right track to liven up the (very quiet) Jazz “free agency”. According to Salt Lake Tribunethe Utah-based guard has so far not caught the attention of any other NBA franchise.
A lack of interest that may be surprising as the 6th man of the year 2021 remains a sure bet coming off the bench.
After a 2022/23 season as a starter, with nearly 21 points on average, the leader of the Philippines, a selection from which he was excluded this summer, thus still averaged 17 points last season, while signing the first triple-double for the Jazz since 2008.
We will especially remember his 5 assists each night, almost double his average since the beginning of his career. Downside: with 41.3% shooting success, including only 29.4% at 3-pointers, he had never been so clumsy since his debut in the big league, in 2014.
A good price-performance ratio
That would explain the lack of interest in this scorer whose salary remains reasonable compared to current market prices. The guard is due to earn $14 million next season, and the same amount the year after.
But with a rebuilding Utah team, his contract could be used in a trade by Danny Ainge. Tomorrow is another day, I don't really try to project myself into the future. But I love this franchise, this state, this city. I love playing for this team, (Will Hardy) and everyone. If it's the last one, that's how it is “, he said during his end-of-season interview.
It is worth recalling that for the second consecutive season, the Salt Lake City team has chosen to prioritize young players over veterans. Jordan Clarkson has only played one of the Jazz's last 17 games, due to a groin injury that has hampered him somewhat, but which he probably could have overcome.
