Jonathan Kuminga touched by Warriors' confidence

Like Jalen Green and Josh Giddey, drafted like him in 2021, Jonathan Kuminga did not get an extension this summer. While Evan Mobley, Cade Cunningham, Scottie Barnes or Franz Wagner hit the jackpot ($224 million!), the Warriors winger is biding his time. Calmly.

“Everyone has their time when God opens his door. And my door is not yet open.” he replied. “At some point, it’s going to open up. Obviously, sooner or later, I know it’s going to open up. If you look at what other people are getting or doing or having, it’s going to slow you down. So I’m not trying to be slowed down, and I’m just going to keep doing what I’ve always done. I’ve always been the guy who never had it easy since high school, so that kind of stuff doesn’t bother me, because at the end of the day, I know I’m always opening doors.”

Young Warriors united and ready to take over

Even though the Warriors haven't extended him yet, and he'll probably be a free agent next July, Jonathan Kuminga knows his management is counting on him. This summer, there was talk of putting together a “package” to attract an All-Star center, but the Warriors didn't want to include Kuminga or Brandin Podziemski.

“I feel like Mike (Dunleavy Jr.) believes in us. There’s not a lot of people that believe in young players, but I feel like Mike believes in the kids that he’s recruited, the kids that he’s been around and watching them develop, how they grow, how they’re going to adapt to some of the challenges that we’re going through… It’s a privilege to still be here, you know… And I’m always grateful to be here and have Mike trust us, but obviously, I feel like he didn’t make a bad choice. I see Brandin working, I see Moses, I see myself, I see Trayce, and I feel like the more we pull together, the brighter our future is.”
