Johnnie Bryant reunites with Donovan Mitchell at the Cavaliers

His name was circulating among the prospects considered to come and support Kenny Atkinson in Cleveland. And the New York Post confirms that Johnnie Bryant will join the Cavaliers and become one of the assistants of the new coach – his right-hand man even, our colleagues specify – like DeMarre Carroll and Jordan Ott.

While he is not an old acquaintance of Kenny Atkinson, the Knicks assistant since 2020 does not arrive in Ohio by chance. He is indeed very close to Donovan Mitchell, with whom he worked in Utah.

His arrival in New York four years ago was even commented as a way for the Knicks to seduce the guard and push him to join them. Finally, the All-Star will go to Cleveland, where he recently extended.

“I love him to death”, Donovan Mitchell explained a few years ago, speaking of Johnnie Bryant. “He’s someone who wants me to be the best. I met him at Summer League, and I’d heard about him before. In three years at Utah, he’s pushed my limits. He doesn’t tell me what I want to hear, he tells me what I need to hear. He’s helped me so much.”
