Joel Embiid hopes ‘lifelong friend’ James Harden will change his mind

Ten days after activating his “player option”, then requesting his transfer, James Harden is still at the Sixers. The market was not enthusiastic about this announcement, and with the exception of the Clippers, no team seems really determined to recruit him. Especially since it will be as part of an exchange, and James Harden is in his last year of contract.

The fact remains that this decision surprised everyone at the Sixers, and Joel Embiid does not hide his disappointment. The two finished, respectively, the NBA’s leading scorer and leading passer, and their tandem could continue to function under the thumb of Nick Nurse, the successor to Doc Rivers.

“We will remain friends for life”

” I’m disappointed. But at the same time, I am aware that it is a business. People make choices and I appreciate more how he handled the whole situation.” reacts the MVP 2023 to the microphone of ShowTime. “We will be friends for life. I want him back so we can accomplish what we want, which is to win a title. So I hope his mindset can change.”

And Joel Embiid to ensure that all is well between them, and that their friendship will survive a possible departure.

“Beyond that, I’m happy to be his friend. We’re close, and we’ve evolved since he arrived here. That’s what makes me happy. I am happy to keep this friendship for the rest of our lives. »
