Have a nice summer Joel Embiid. Olympic champion with the United States, the pivot has just announced on Instagram that he has renegotiated/extended his contract with the Sixers!
With three years remaining on his lease, at $51.4 million for 2024/25, $55.2 million for 2025/26 and $59.0 million for 2026/27, the 2023 MVP extended for three years. Technically, his final year (in player option) is thus replaced by a year at $59.5 million for 2026/27, to which he therefore adds $64.3 million in 2027/28 and $69.1 million in 2028/29.
In the 500 million club
This last year is again a “player option”, which he can therefore activate, or not. But at the time of having to make his choice, if he does not extend in the meantime, he will be 34 years old.
At the end of his new contract, the Yaoundé native will have received 515 million dollars in NBA salaries, with only LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Paul George and Kevin Durant having earned more in history.
And at 30, he intends to be part of the long-term future of his long-standing franchise.
“Philadelphia is my home” he explains on Instagram. “I love this community and everything you have given to me and my family. There is still a lot of work to do. You deserve a championship and I think we are just getting started!”
