Joel Embiid explodes the Wizards for the successful premiere of Nicolas Batum

Joel Embiid has just regained his seat as the league’s top scorer. Facing a weak Wizards, the Sixers pivot signed his biggest offensive outburst of the season so far – 48 points (17/25 on shots and 14/14 on throws), 11 rebounds and 6 assists – in the big victory of his team (146-128).

This is a fifth success in a row for Nick Nurse’s men, who have not lost since their inaugural defeat by one point on the Bucks floor. The Sixers are therefore full of confidence before this Wednesday’s shock against the Celtics, with whom they share the top of the Eastern Conference (5 wins – 1 loss).

Joel Embiid demonstrated

This night, the locals took advantage of the defensive generosity of the team opposite, the worst in the league in this area. The Wizards tried to pass through the zone or take two shots against the opposite pivot… When the rotations don’t follow, it’s in vain. The reigning MVP thus had no difficulty in bringing out the balls, or reversing the game towards De’Anthony Melton for example, who was one of those to compensate for the clumsiness of Kelly Oubre.

With two inspired lieutenants (Tyrese Maxey and Tobias Harris), Joel Embiid and the Sixers could return to the locker room calmly (77-58). After the break, the pivot accelerated his operation demolishing poor Daniel Gafford and the racket opposite. Abandoning the 3-point shot, the interior did not stop scoring under the circle or on the periphery, with his mid-distance shot at the free throw line.

Coulibaly reaches the 10 point mark

Result, a lunar third quarter with 29 points scored, without missing a single shot in the game (10/10) or on the penalty line (9/9)! Philadelphia thus increased its lead a little (120-98), still conceding 40 points in a period marked by an exchange of baskets.

The Jordan Poole – Kyle Kuzma pair thus easily crossed the mark of 50 points scored between them, but without any effect on the outcome of the match since Washington was not decided to defend. Result, it is a fourth defeat in a row for the Wizards, who present the opposite record of their opponents in the evening. Finally, we note that the other Frenchman, Bilal Coulibaly, reached the symbolic bar of 10 points for the first time in his young career.

WHAT YOU MUST REMEMBER

The Nicolas Batum festival!Welcome to Philly! “, wished him the local TV commentator, seeing him convert his first shot in his new jersey. The Frenchman had just been served in the corner by Patrick Beverley at the end of the first quarter. This shoot was the start of a little festival, straddling the following quarter, during which he scored all of his 11 points in a few minutes! His address greatly contributed to widening the gap. The proof, the former Clippers player, mistakenly called “Nicolas Baton” in the AP dispatches…, finished with an incredible +30 in the score when he was in play, in 17 minutes! Note that he is the only former Los Angeles player to have joined Nick Nurse’s rotation. Robert Covington and the others had to wait until the end of the match to get a few minutes.

The Joel Embiid – Tyrese Maxey Connection. “ He’s pretty good at basketball ”, the second can smile when talking about the first. The new in-house head designer isn’t awkward either. Last night, Tyrese Maxey signed a career record with 11 assists, without losing a single ball. We saw him multiply the “pick-and-rolls” with his pivot, particularly in the third quarter, against which Daniel Gafford and the others were unable to find a solution. The interior was able to return the favor by bringing out good balls when caught in two low positions.
