The All-Star Game passed, Joel Embiid was ESPN’s guest, and he agreed to return to the departure of Ben Simmons and their icy relations for several months. The Cameroonian pivot assures that he has tried everything to get his former teammate back in the group, and reverse his decision to leave.
” I think I spoke to him a week or two before the trade deadline. He’s a great player, and whatever he brings to the Nets, he’s going to take them a level or two higher. says Embiid. “I ran after him a lot to try to get him to come back and put him at ease. It was hard, and I didn’t care anymore“.
Asked about his pride in taking the first step towards Simmons, Embiid precisely assures that he had put all that aside.
“If I had had pride – I’m frank and I’m honest – I could have said a lot of things. I still did what I thought was good to do as a teammate. “
A few days before the exchange with James Harden, Embiid had explained that he would not take the first step towards his teammate, if the latter had not left… “If anyone wants to play, then they are welcome.
