While Steve Clifford had informed them that he would no longer be their coach well in advance, the Hornets leaders have still not found their new coach.
Their recruiting process began with interviews with existing assistants, such as David Adelman at the Nuggets, and Charles Lee at the Celtics. At the same time, they had to give up Jordi Fernandez chosen by the Nets and Kevin Young who found a position in the NCAA, with Brigham Young.
Result: Charlotte extended its list of candidates, with Lindsey Harding, Jerry Stackhouse, Jordan Ott (assistant to Darvin Ham)… And according to The Athleticwe must now add JJ Redick to this list of candidates.
No confirmed coaches
Like the other applicants, the current ESPN consultant has no experience as a head coach, nor as an assistant. However, the quality of analysis of the former shooter seems esteemed in the community.
After the dismissal of Nick Nurse last season, JJ Redick had already traded with the Raptors to take the vacant position. But Darko Rajakovic finally got the job.
Until then, the Hornets have therefore chosen to ignore former NBA coaches, and we are therefore heading towards a rookie coach to take the reins of a franchise which has not made the playoffs since 2016!
