Successor to Doc Rivers to commentate on the next Finals, JJ Redick is not kind to the new coach of the Bucks, and incidentally his former coach at the Clippers. While Doc Rivers justified his complicated debut at the Bucks (3 wins – 7 losses) by the fact that he arrived during the season, JJ Redick got carried away on the ESPN set. According to him, the former Celtics coach spends his time making excuses.
“I have heard this speech for years. It’s a speech where he’s always looking for excuses. Hey, Doc, we get it! » Lance JJ Redick. “Taking a team during the season is difficult. We understand ! In the same way that it is difficult for a player to be transferred during the season. But he's always looking for an excuse, and it's always the team's fault. »
JJ Redick takes the recent defeat of the Bucks against the Grizzlies as an example. “They lost in Memphis, and it’s the players’ fault! Memphis was playing with G-League guys and two-way contracts… And then, look at these statements from the weekend. Now he wants to take credit for trading James Harden to the Clippers? He wants to take credit for it? This guy is never accountable. He never takes responsibility! »
Pat Beverley and Austin Rives get involved
Words which obviously caused a reaction in the NBA microcosm. Like Patrick Beverley, on X/Twitter, who believes that Doc Rivers “saved” JJ Redick’s career during his time with the Clippers.
“This Doc actually saved your career!” He gave you tenure when no one wanted you. And now that you're retired and you're on television, you say that…” To which JJ Redick responded, still on especially having left Orlando…
Then, it's Austin Rivers, colleague of JJ Redick on ESPN, who defended his father.
“For someone who's not accountable, it seems like he's always been held accountable, since he's always the one who got fired when things weren't going well. It's weird that it's coming from JJ, and I have affection for him. But in terms of responsibility, what are we talking about? Your best years in the NBA were those with him and the Clippers, let's not forget that. I don't know if there is frustration or tension between you… I know that we left you on the bench at the end of the match for defensive reasons… But you had your best years as a starter there . Our whole system was designed around you because you were a shooter, not one who dribbles…”
For Austin Rivers, this release of JJ Redick doesn't really make sense. “It’s very ironic and a little weird that you spend so much energy against him, to say that he doesn’t take responsibility, when it’s always him who is held responsible”.
