While seeing a father and son together at the professional level is not new in the United States, it is, however, unprecedented in the NBA. LeBron James and his son Bronny will make history this season at the Lakers. Inevitably, in Los Angeles, people are already thinking about this great moment. JJ Redick in mind.
“We've obviously talked about it with the staff and looked at the details of what it might look like. But we haven't decided anything yet.”, assures the Lakers coach. “Obviously there needs to be a discussion with Bronny and LeBron James as well. They need to be part of the debate.”
If the association does not come to life on the first night of the regular season, on October 22 against the Wolves, there is no doubt that the anticipation will grow and that each meeting, especially at home, will be the subject of discussions. There is therefore the risk of making it a soap opera, which could disrupt the Californian group.
Not a challenge but a unique situation for JJ Redick
Already, leading the son of the best scorer in NBA history will not be easy for his first experience on a bench. Even if JJ Redick does not seem bothered by this very special context.
“I don't see it as a challenge even if it is unique in terms of coaching and the relationship with a player. I feel happy to coach him because he is young and hungry,” says the former player, speaking of Bronny. “He has qualities that can be shaped into a very good NBA player. Plus, he's a fantastic kid, easy to coach. He has the right mindset and the right energy on a daily basis.”
Especially when you remember that LeBron's son will not be constantly on the Lakers bench. The coach had already announced, earlier in the summer, that Bronny James would be making stints in the G-League.
