JJ Redick didn't understand anything about his Lakers' defense

While they were in a good period, the Lakers had a bad time on their Texan “road trip”. Overwhelmed by the energy of the young Rockets, they also came up against Mavericks yet deprived of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.

It was defensively that the “Purple & Gold” cracked, and JJ Redick admits that his team did anything…

“Our base defense just wasn’t good”, explains the coach. “The player at the bottom of the defense just wasn’t there. And when he was there, the weak side rotation wasn't there. »

Cut out

Dallas didn't do anything incredible, but simple cuts from Maxi Kleber, on the weak side, totally disrupted the Lakers, who were getting sucked in… leaving open shots for Jaden Hardy and company.

“I didn’t understand our rotations” continues JJ Redick. “I didn’t see us implementing what we wanted. I haven't seen the footage yet but, live and after talking to my assistants who saw it, we didn't seem to know what to do with the positioning and rotations. I had never seen that before. »

Maxi Kleber's cuts were intended precisely to disrupt the Los Angeles defense, and in particular the zone set up, but these simple movements should not have generated so many open shots.

“There are two things to do in these kinds of situations. Either stay glued to the opponent… or float and prevent cuts. But we did neither. Once again, I hadn't seen that.” concludes JJ Redick, whose team drops to 6th place in the Western Conference, with 20 wins for 16 losses, tied with the Clippers.
