The podcast is very popular among NBA players, retired or not. It must be said that it is a format which requires relatively few resources, and which therefore allows basketball players to give their perspective to fans quite simply.
With “The Old Man and the Three”, JJ Redick is undoubtedly the most successful in the field, multiplying interviews with his peers. Enough to open the doors to ESPN for him, where he now comments on matches and where he participates in more “mainstream” and divisive shows, like “First Take”.
And his success inevitably caught the eye of LeBron James, the two men having just announced the creation of their joint podcast, “Mind The Game”, the first episode of which has just been released.
“This is a very free conversation about sport and gaming”explains JJ Redick at The Athletic. “If you look at it very simplistically, it’s just about basketball. »
This first episode is indeed a very free conversation, sometimes even if it means being very (too?) dense, with JJ Redick launching certain topics, particularly tactics, always from the point of view of the players they are/were.
“I am very proud of what we have done to innovate in the field of sports media”explains LeBron James in any case on the principle of this new podcast, which should be weekly. “When I make a project, the only thing I think about is whether my friends and I would watch it. That’s certainly the case with “Mind the Game.” Not everything needs to be designed for the internet and clicks.”
