Even though he failed twice in the final in the past four seasons, in the bubble in 2020 and last month, Jimmy Butler remains more motivated than ever. During his promotional tour in China alongside his equipment supplier Li-Ning, the Heat star showed color by announcing that Miami would go all the way next year. And he is not one to joke when he indulges in this kind of predictions…
The man who inherited the nickname “Playoffs Jimmy” for his exceptional postseason performance felt that he could and should do better if he wanted to achieve his goal in the next playoffs.
“Honestly, I believe there is no secret. I just believe in knowing how to play your best when it’s time to do so. That’s why I like to think Miami brought me in, to help them win a title. And you can’t win a title without playing really well in the playoffs. We narrowly failed, but I know we can do it again. Next year will be our year. And if this ‘Jimmy Playoffs’ really exists, then next year it has to be much better.” did he throw.
The face of the franchise
Arrived in 2019, Jimmy Butler has perfectly embodied the identity of the Florida franchise by his toughness, his intensity and his determination, to the point of having become the undisputed leader of Erik Spoelstra’s training, and even to no longer imagine playing for another team in the NBA one day.
“I really believe, with all my heart, that we’re going to win a title with the Heat. Because I don’t plan to play for another NBA team after Miami. I know that we are able to do it, that with the team that Coach Pat (Riley) and Coach Spo have put in place around me and my teammates, we will do it. We will always have a chance. This year is our year, I really believe it. We know what it takes to get there, we still have to pass this last step. But like I said, I’m going to be better, we’re all going to be better as a team, and the next time I talk to you here, I’ll be the NBA champion.” he added.
It remains to be seen if he can count on Damian Lillard to help him in his quest during the next campaign…
