Jimmy Butler named Eastern Conference Finals MVP

While Nikola Jokic was unanimously voted MVP of the Western Conference Finals, it’s much tighter in the East as Jimmy Butler wins the Larry Bird Trophy with five votes, against four for Caleb Martin. It was Alonzo Mourning, legend of the Heat, who presented him with this award, and he succeeds Jayson Tatum, winner of the trophy in 2022.

After three average games, Butler pulled out all the stops tonight with 28 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, 4 steals, and only one loose ball! It was he, at the start of the 4th quarter, who put an end to the Celtics’ comeback dreams with a dunk on the counter-attack. The Heat then passes a 7-0 to take a 17-point lead.

Across the series, Butler has 24.7 points, 7.6 rebounds, 6.1 assists and 2.6 steals. Huge stats for the leader of the Heat, even if Caleb Martin would also have been a great winner… The surprising Heat winger is the best player of his training this night with 26 points and 10 rebounds on 11 of 16 on shots. More consistent throughout the series, Martin is the revelation of this series, but five voters preferred to highlight Butler’s leadership, one year to the day, after his missed winning shot in Game 7 against to those same Celtics.
