After PJ Tucker’s departure to the Sixers, Heat fans are wondering who will be the starting power forward in Florida for the start of the season. While one of the options is to shift Jimmy Butler to the position.
This would give a major five probably composed of Kyle Lowry, Max Strus and Duncan Robinson on the outside positions, with Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo on the inside positions. Asked about this option during his team’s “training camp”, Erik Spoelstra evaded the question, but it does not seem to be his preferred option.
“I wish I could, at some point in Jimmy’s career, have him play all five positions”thus preferred to joke the coach at the Miami Herald. “I’ve already played him as a point guard. I started him in his natural position, position 3. I started him in position 2. I started him in position 4, and he will play a bit of a power forward this year, but he is little likely to start at this position. »
For the moment, we can therefore imagine that it is rather Caleb Martin who holds the rope…
“It would be cool to get him (Jimmy Butler) to start in position 4 at some point, this year or in the future. And then to start him at position 5. It would be a great honor. But Jimmy is a brilliant competitor. He’ll make it work no matter what position we put him in. But making him play to his strengths is important for him, for me and for the team.” thus concluded Erik Spoelstra.
Besides, while he might be the current best option (pending Jae Crowder’s return?), Jimmy Butler didn’t seem too keen on the idea either.
