Jeremy Sochan, the difficult learning of the playmaker position

The point guard position is unique to basketball. Even more so when it is not natural to the player who occupies this function. It’s the case for Jeremy Sochan currently moved from power forward in 2022/23 to point guard this season.

The transition, described as an experiment by Gregg Popovich, is far from easy for the Pole. “There are times when I don’t want to do it. I want to send everything to shit”he declares to San Antonio Express News.

A rare transition

For the moment, the player alternates between interesting passages and those where he seems lost and incapable of organizing the San Antonio attack. Against Minnesota, for example, he lost six balls.

“It’s the first time in my life that I’m playing point guard. To tell the truth, there are times when I don’t have confidence in myself. Others, where I have confidence in myself. I’m going through a transition that’s rare in the NBA. Few people move from position 4 to point guard. »

Even if the experience is still inconclusive, and Tre Jones is much more effective coming off the bench, Jeremy Sochan has the support of his replacement and the entire group.

“That means a lot. If he wasn’t on my side, it would be much harder.”assures the playmaker. “It feels good to know that everyone believes in it, while knowing that it won’t be perfect. But that’s what they’re there for. »
