He was more talked about for his “DNP” in the first match against Serbia than for his performances, but Jayson Tatum has no intention of creating problems within Team USA. Especially since he is on cloud nine.
An NBA champion in June, the winger signed the biggest contract in the history of the Major League ($314 million over five years) in July, and he is heading straight for a second Olympic gold medal.
A very beautiful summer in perspective…
Still fueled by the energy of the parade
“It was a real whirlwind” he admits. “Winning a title is what I imagined, but ten times better. You work so hard for your goal, and I think the fact that we failed a few times made it even sweeter, to say the least. I'm still enjoying it.”
With the parade through the streets of Boston still fresh in his mind, Jayson Tatum has a hard time not smiling all the time.
“The parade was probably the best experience I’ve ever been a part of. The number of people there, the reactions, the environment, the energy. It was more than anything I could have imagined.”
So, it's not a small match on the bench at the opening of the Olympic Games that will disturb him.
“We must always remain ourselves, be the one who allowed us to get here, but we must all change our roles a little bit.”he admits of his role with Team USA. “You have to do what you have to win.”
