Jaylen Brown remains in Boston with the biggest contract in history: 304 million dollars over five years!

After more than three weeks of negotiations, Jaylen Brown and the Celtics finally reached an agreement on the full-back/winger’s contract extension.

And as expected, the latter initialed for the “super max”, the biggest contract in NBA history!

We are thus talking about an amount of 304 million dollars over five years with, in detail, 52.4 million in 2024/25, 56.6 million in 2025/26, 60.8 million in 2026/27, 64.9 million in 2027/29 and 69.1 million in 2028/29.

If the negotiations took so long, it is because Jaylen Brown and Boston were negotiating on the margins of the agreement, in order to keep maximum leverage on both sides, in the event of a future upheaval in the workforce. On the player’s side, we wanted the maximum number of options to prevent too easy a transfer. And necessarily the opposite for the Celtics.

Finally, the two camps made compromises since the All-Star obtained a “trade kicker”, a bonus in the event of a transfer, while there is no “player option” on the last year of the contract.
