JaVale McGee knows how Keegan Murray can turn a corner

After a very interesting first season, Keegan Murray had a more mixed second year. Certainly, Mike Brown believes that he has progressed everywhere, he has improved his points average (15.2) and his defensive performances are good, but he has also been less skillful from afar.

We can have the feeling that this second season was not the expected springboard for the Kings winger, while the entire Sacramento franchise believed that his progress could take the team to a new dimension. How can he reach this milestone in his third year in the NBA?

“I think he needs to be more comfortable with himself. I know this is going to sound weird but, I'm with him in the locker room, I think he needs more energy off the field.”assures JaVale McGee for the “Deuce & Mo” podcast. “I know what the players do and Keegan Murray doesn’t do any of that. He goes to the gym and goes home. He is very focused on basketball and he needs to socialize more. It will show on the pitch. »

“If you're too focused on basketball and nothing else, there's anxiety. If we make a mistake, then it's over.”

What should he do then? “He never goes to any meals, he goes to the hotel and orders himself food”continues the former Warriors. “He watches the videos of the matches and it's very good to be like that in this field, but it's also necessary to have fun, because we're in the NBA, we make millions of dollars. »

The scales do not seem balanced for Keegan Murray, and lean too much towards the sporting side. “It’s a balance,” judges the three-time NBA champion. “I'm not saying he should go clubbing… But if he's in New York for four days, he should go out to eat and enjoy his time with friends. Let him enjoy the benefits of his sport, because he worked hard to get here. Let him go to Times Square and be a tourist. »

The advice is given but, ultimately, why can relaxing more be beneficial on the field?

“If you're too focused on basketball and nothing else, there's anxiety. If we make a mistake, then it's over. We become like this,” analyzes JaVale McGee. “Sometimes you have to relax and get your mind off basketball, even if it’s just one day in the week. You can do six days in a row, but one day you have to take time for yourself and experience new things. »
