Jase Richardson to follow in his father’s footsteps at Michigan State

It’s another big blow for Michigan State! After having already got our hands on two prospects from the Top 100 in the country compiled by ESPN, Kur Teng (#39) and Jesse McCullough (#98), it is Jase RichardsonJason’s son, who has committed to East Lansing University.

Back like his father, Jase Richardson, from Christopher Colombus High School (Florida), is ranked 6th best back in the country and 28th best player in the 2024 class, all positions combined. He notably refused Alabama and Cincinnati to join his father’s alma mater…

“As soon as I stepped on campus for my official visit, I felt a real connection with the players and coaches. I felt like I was in a family,” he told ESPN. “I remember my first visit to Michigan State, I was seven years old. It was a meeting to celebrate the (2000) national title.”

Jason Richardson wrote one of the most beautiful pages in the history of MSU during his stay from 1999 to 2001 with a university championship title in 2000, the last won by the Spartans. A title acquired under the orders of Tom Izzo, still in office, who is therefore preparing to recover the son more than twenty years later.

“Coach Izzo is a genuine person”he added. “It tells you what you need to hear. He is realistic. We built a connection and trust. But more importantly, he told me that even if my dad hadn’t gone to Michigan State, he still would have wanted to recruit me. It was very important to me. He told me stories about my father. He told me he broke two shooting machines in one season because he used them so much. He told me that my father still owed him a machine.”

A full back, the left-hander recently stood out on Paul George’s team in the Nike EYBL circuit, a summer tournament reserved for the best high school students in the country, averaging 16.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.8 assists.
