Jarrett Jack and Monty Williams, it’s a story that lasts. To begin with, the first, then a player, rubbed shoulders with the second, already a coach, in New Orleans in the early 2010s. Then, in 2021, Jarrett Jack, who had become an assistant, found Monty Williams on the bench in Phoenix.
Finally, this summer, the coach took the door at the Suns, before bouncing back to Detroit, with the biggest contract in history for a technician. When composing his staff, the 2021 finalist contacts Jarrett Jack.
“I was delighted when I received his call and when he asked me to be part of his team”says the former Knicks player at Michigan Live. “I know that the coach will get to work and it’s up to us, as assistants, to be his extension and to ensure that the players are well prepared. »
Appointed to take care of the Pistons during the Summer League, Jarrett Jack will become a mentor for this training composed mainly of young talents like Cade Cunningham, Jaden Ivey or Jalen Duren.
“When I came to the NBA, I was drafted by the youngest team in the league,” remembers the one who started his career in Portland in 2005. “We had problems, that’s for sure, but it helped me. I am able to help someone who is in a similar situation at the start of their career, to show them that things are possible, that positive things can happen if we work and stick together. When you go through these complicated times and achieve goals, it’s very rewarding and you don’t forget those times. »
We must add two new elements to this group of Cubs: Ausar Thompson and Marcus Sasser, drafted last month respectively in 5th and 25th position.
“I think Ausar has the potential to become one of the best young players in the league on both sides of the pitch,” ahead Jarrett Jack. “Marcus is lightning fast, he can help us change the pace. »
