James Johnson returns to the Pacers

Rick Carlisle loves James Johnsonand the Pacers have just signed the veteran center for another year.

ESPN announces: a one-year, $3.3 million contract for the 37-year-old, the veteran minimum for a player of his experience. The MMA specialist will therefore complete Indiana's roster even if, like last season, he has little chance of seeing the court behind Myles Turner, Pascal Siakam, Obi Toppin, Jarace Walker, Isaiah Jackson and the latest recruit, James Wiseman…

But the main thing is elsewhere for the former Heat and Raptors player, in a role of mentor to young people.

“He contributed so much to our situation by leading by example, by being a mentor, by being very positive and very sincere.” Rick Carlisle explained a few months ago. “He's got a big reputation in this league as a competitor, as a very tough guy. He's been an X-factor and it's great to have him back in our ranks.”

He could probably say exactly the same thing this summer.
