We wondered why James Dolan was the only owner to oppose the sale of the Charlotte Hornets by Michael Jordan, or the creation of a WNBA franchise in San Francisco. We also wondered why the Knicks were so aggressive in their complaint against the Raptors, indirectly attacking Adam Silver.
It is finally ESPN which gives the answerexplaining that the owner of the Knicks is angry with the NBA!
In recent months, James Dolan has completely resigned from his positions within the powerful financial and media committees of the NBA’s board of governors, believing that he is not being listened to.
“Given everything that has happened recently, I have come to the conclusion that the NBA has neither the need nor the desire to listen to my opinion”wrote James Dolan in a memo addressed in July to “commissioner” Adam Silver, a memo of which he also sent a copy to the 29 other owners of the league.
Annoyed by the income redistribution system?
James Dolan will no longer attend owners’ meetings either, although he still does not give up his right to vote. It is now Jamaal Lesane, the legal director of the franchise, who will vote on his behalf.
“I hope the Knicks are treated fairly compared to every other team in the NBA”added James Dolan. “As you know, I am very busy with all my duties within the various companies at Madison Square Garden. I need to use my time where I can be most productive.”
Increasingly critical of the NBA and Adam Silver, James Dolan, who admitted that owning sports franchises does not particularly interest him, especially does not like the league’s revenue sharing system, the big markets (like New York) having to return part of their income to small markets.
