He was the big “recruit” of the Canadian selection for these 2024 Olympic Games, the one that should allow the selection to aim even higher than the bronze of the last World Cup…
But with the Olympics starting in three days, we have barely seen Jamal Murray during preparation.
A round trip to the United States which disrupted his preparation
Because after his 17 minutes against the United States, for only 5 points at 1/8 shooting and 5 rebounds, the Nuggets point guard only played one other official match, against Puerto Rico. And he only had 7 minutes.
Logically, The Canadian press is therefore wondering if there is a problem with Jamal Murray, who was clearly not 100% during the playoffs, and who generally missed the series against the Wolves. According to information from Michael Grange, of SportsNet, the answer is no, the 27-year-old basketball player is not slowed down by injuries.
Simply, his preparation was disrupted by a “personal matter”, which forced him to return to the United States while he was already in France with his selection.
No time to waste
It is thus Jordi Fernandez's staff who would preserve him, to allow him to cope with the jet lag.
Given that Jamal Murray is currently negotiating with the Nuggets for his big contract extension, which he has yet to sign, rumors have emerged linking his contract situation to his strange preparation.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's expected partner in Canada's backcourt will still have one last round of rehearsal, as his team will face Brazil in a private scrimmage in Lille tonight. Because the Maple Leaf team has no time to lose in Group A with Greece, Spain and Australia…
