Jamal Murray: ‘I’ve never smiled in defeat before’

A nasty defeat against Utah, 12 points on 13 shots, 3 loss of ball for 1 single assist, the worst +/- of the match at -19. At first glance, there is not much to take away from this first game of the season for Jamal Murray.

But after a white season following a rupture of a knee ligament, the leader was still happy.

“I know I’m smiling”, he was having fun after the match. “I had never smiled in defeat before.”

As for Ben Simmons, his coach and his teammates are also asking for patience for Jamal Murray. “It wasn’t that bad” thus released Nikola Jokic, when Mike Malone had warned of “tempering criticism”.

Anyway, nothing seemed able to sadden the Canadian. Neither his physical condition, which he admitted to be far from his best level, nor the very low defensive level displayed by the Nuggets.

“It’s just good to be on the pitch” he concluded, confirming all the same that he would probably take the next defeat much worse…
