Jamal Murray does not come down from his cloud

Even if his participation in the World Cup is not guaranteed, Jamal Murray benefits 200% from his return to selection. Spared by the staff, the leader of Denver confirmed that he was not at the level of the rest of the group, and the reason is simple: his season ended in mid-June, and he resumed training later.

“It’s a process… My physique and pace are a little different to others, but I try to stay relaxed and focus on my shot. I can always lean on it” explains Murray to Canadian media.

No time to take a break

For Jordi Fernandez, who took over from Nick Nurse at the helm of Canada, it is precious to have an NBA champion in the group, and for Murray, it is a difficulty but also a privilege to now have this status to assume.

“It’s nice to have this state of mind throughout the year”, assures the leader of Denver. “It’s obviously hard to mentally handle all that intensity, but that’s what makes sport sport. We like to compete with each other, even when we are tired, we push forward, we improve each other and we push each other. This is what makes this group special, whatever the day, whatever the state of our physical condition, we are there on the ground working and pushing each other to the maximum. »

Jamal Murray surfs on his dynamic

Back in Toronto, and for the first time in selection since 2015, Murray takes the opportunity to see his loved ones again, and it’s part of this crazy year 2023. “I’m just taking advantage of the momentum right now. It’s my first time home, so it’s good to see the family and be with the guys. I remain speechless. It’s hard to describe everything, it’s like a roller coaster, and it was a good experience. Honestly, it’s like… a constant ramp-up and every day is different. The term “champion” never gets old. I am still aware of what we have accomplished. We did something unique and no one can ever take that away from us. »

As to whether he will be able to go to Asia, GM Rowan Barrett recalls that it is pending. “You have to be smart with him… We really have to watch him, work with the medical staff and make the right decision for him from a medical point of view. But everything seems to be going well so far.”
