For several seasons, the Heat has made a specialty of pulling undrafted players out of its hat. Will Jamal Cain be the last on this list (Duncan Robinson, Haywood Highsmith, Omer Yurtseven, Gabe Vincent…)?
This winger (2m01, 23 years old) passed by Marquette then Oakland, thus made a strong impression during the last two preseason meetings. In the impressive victory against the Nets, he had the biggest playing time in Miami, compiling 15 points (6/10), 11 rebounds and 5 steals in 27 minutes on the floor. Same thing against the Grizzlies, with 19 points (7/14), 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals in 38 minutes on the boards.
What to offer him in the wake of a “two-way contract”, while Miami had already promised his two contracts of the kind to Darius Days and Marcus Garrett. One of the two will therefore be sacrificed.
Originally from Michigan, Jamal Cain is a rebounding winger, slender, dynamic and intelligent in his placements. After four seasons at Marquette, where he never averaged more than 10 points per game, he joined Oakland University last year to take on more offensive responsibilities.
Enough to complete his last NCAA campaign with 19.9 points (50% success, 30% from 3-pointers), 10.2 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game. Not enough, however, to allow him to be selected by a team on the evening of the Draft.
The Miami Heat are converting undrafted rookie forward Jamal Cain to a two-way contract. Cain’s averaged 17 points and 8.5 rebounds in Heat’s past two preseason games.
