After the departure of Fred VanVleet, who plunged the Raptors in the uncertainty, Masai Ujiri tries as best he can to strengthen his team despite everything, and is doing well for the moment. After Dennis Schroder, recruited for two seasons and 26 million dollars, the boss of the Raptors has thus made a second consistent signing, at a reasonable price: that of Jalen McDanielsfor two seasons and $9.3 million.

The 25-year-old winger is thus taking up residence in Ontario in search of new opportunities, after having experienced a lackluster 2022/23 campaign. First there was an exciting first half of the season with the Hornets (10.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2 assists), then a much more innocuous second half, in Philadelphia after his transfer (6.7 points and 3.2 rebounds), in exchange from Matisse Thybulle to the “deadline”.
On paper, the older brother of Jaden McDaniels does not really embody the profile that the Raptors badly need, namely that of an outside shooter (even if his 34.5% in career is correct). But on the other hand, he embodies the profile of a “Raptors” winger under Masai Ujiri, that is to say a tall, long, energetic exterior and a good defender.
With a Toronto side uncertain of what their 2023/24 season will look like, Jalen McDaniels has a good opportunity to rebound, after a frustrating end to the campaign in recent months with the Sixers.
