Intractable after the break, the Mavs torpedo the Knicks behind the arc!

reunion day at New York for Jalen Brunson (13 points) with dallas and he will probably want to forget them very quickly. At home, the Knicks actually took a deluge of 3-pts from the Mavericks (24 baskets at 3-pts!) and they ended up exploding after the break: 69-41!

On arrival, this gives a success of about twenty points (121-100) for the teammates of Luka Doncic (30 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists, 3 blocks) and Tim Hardaway Jr. (28 points, 7 rebounds), who leave Madison Square Garden with a smile after this very late game.

WHAT YOU MUST REMEMBER

Dallas’ killer third quarter. Led at halftime (59-52), the Mavericks returned from the locker room with all other intentions. From 62-56, they effectively inflicted a… 29-6 (including a 17-0 in the lot!) to the Knicks, under the impetus of a Tim Hardaway Jr. in a state of grace behind the arc (five successes by far, almost in quick succession!). Luka Doncic was not outdone on the Texan side either, while the New York players no longer put anything in it, and it finally gave a score of… 41-15 (!) over these twelve minutes, in favor of Dallas .

A 3-pt rain fell on New York. If Tom Thibodeau’s men took on water after the break, it was largely due to their inability to defend their 3-point line and extinguish the Texan shooters. Because, as soon as the latter began to be successful in this exercise (they were at 9/30 at halftime), there was simply no more suspense between the Knicks and the Mavs. Upon arrival, Jason Kidd’s players finished 24/61 from afar, one unit off their franchise record. Perfect to regain confidence after their five defeats in six games.

TOPS/FLOPS

Tim Hardaway Jr.. Without Christian Wood, sick, the Mavericks needed one of their second knives to stand out to support Luka Doncic. It was ultimately “THJ” who took over in this role, equaling his season’s points record against his former team. We will especially remember his excellent third quarter, during which he managed a crazy series (decisive) of five baskets at 3-pts, almost in quick succession. Which earned him a straight out: “It’s my city! » aimed at the New York public…

✅⛔ Luka Doncic. Meeting at two speeds for the Slovenian. First bad in the first half, due to his clumsiness, his loss of ball and a good New York collective defense, he then quickly straightened the bar in the second half. In check from a distance, “Luka Doncic” regained confidence near the circle before gradually moving away and also having fun behind the arc, to plant 19 points in the third quarter alone. In just 29 minutes, he finished with another 30-point outing and a very complete stats sheet.

Julius Randle. If there was one player on the Knicks side, it would probably be the 2021 MIP (24 points), although Immanuel Quickley (23 points) also showed good things tonight. We still have to draw a line under his second period, because Randle disappeared like almost his entire team after the break (only 3 points…). He was however very good before, installing New York at the controls with his aggressiveness in scoring and his address at the start and then at the end of half-time. But it only lasted 24 minutes, out of 48…

New York in the second half. Terrible collective collapse of the Knicks, once back from the locker room. Unable to find address from long or close range, they were also unable to slow down Mavs forwards, who quickly saw the circle widen as New York defenders let them down. calmly take their shots. Difficult, under these conditions, to hope for better than defeat, their sixth in eight games. The noose is gradually tightening around Tom Thibodeau…
