In search of an interior, the Lakers think of Christian Wood

With extensions from Rui Hachimura, Austin Reaves and D’Angelo Russell, plus signings from Gabe Vincent, Taurean Prince, Jaxson Hayes and Cam Reddish, the Lakers have had a solid offseason on paper.

However, there is still a small project to be completed: strengthening the interior sector. Because, at the pivot position, Los Angeles has only two options for next season with Anthony Davis and Jaxson Hayes. And as the first is often injured, a third rotation seems necessary.

“We are actively looking for another interior”confirms Rob Pelinka, the GM of the Lakers, at The Athletic. “The arrival of Jaxson Hayes is important because he can be what Dwight Howard has been in the past for us: an inside that protects the circle. But we want to add one more pivot. »

An attacker or a defender?

Our colleagues advance the names of two targets to become the 14th contract of the Lakers: Christian Wood And Bismack Biyombo. Two very different profiles, with the first who is more talented offensively but has big limits in defense, unlike the second city who is solid in defense and rebound but on the other hand very limited in attack.

“I think it’s important to know what qualities you expect from this position,” specifies the Californian leader. “We don’t want to sign a player who has the same qualities as Hayes. If we can have diversity in this position, it would be a good thing. »

Dario Saric was also in the sights of the 2023 Western Conference finalists, but the latter signed with the Warriors. To find their happiness by the training camp in September, the Lakers will not splurge financially since the third pivot will undoubtedly be signed for minimum wage.
