In contact with the Celtics, Austin Rivers dreams of playing for the Heat!

Fifteen years after his father, will Austin Rivers join the Celtics? It’s within the realm of possibility since the former Wolves fullback, still under contract, actually picked up his phone to call management. On paper, the Celtics have 14 players under contract, only 11 of which are guaranteed, and with Marcus Smart not being replaced, Doc Rivers’ son offered his services.

“That’s why I called.” confirms Rivers on the microphone of Bill Simmons podcast. “I actually had a great chat with Brad (Stevens) a week ago. I told him I would love to be part of the team. He said a lot of positive things. We won’t see if it bears fruit. I’ve always loved Brad, and I’ve always been a fan of his. »

“It’s my number 1 choice, to play for Spo, to play with guys like Jimmy”

Revelations which come while this same Rivers also made a huge appeal to the Heat.

“Miami is a dream destination for all players like me because Spo (Erik Spoelstra) doesn’t coach anyone based on prestige or contract,” Rivers explains.. “He plays those who give their all and those who help win the damn game. I would do anything to play the Heat. Seriously, that’s my No. 1 choice, playing for Spo, playing with guys like Jimmy (Butler) and all those dogs. There, we play even if we are sick, even if we are injured, even if we suffer. We defend, defend, defend…”

In fact, Rivers is hoping the Damian Lillard trade happens because there will be spots up for grabs next.

“I hope that an agreement will be reached and that they will have to get rid of three or four players because they already have several contracts that they have not yet signed. They still have three places in the squad that they have not used because they are waiting for the agreement with Dame” recalls Rivers.
