Ahead of his first full season in charge of the Nets, Jacque Vaughn sees its coaching staff get a makeover. The management of Brooklyn has thus formalized the names of its assistants, and we will now find Kevin Ollie, Will Weaver, Jay Hernandez, Ronnie Burrell and Corey Vinson.
For Will Weaver, who coached Paris Basketball, it’s a homecoming since he was already an assistant at the Nets between 2016 and 2018. He had also coached the Long Island Nets, the G League affiliate team of the franchise the following season. For Ronnie Burrell, it’s more of a promotion since he was just coaching the Long Island Nets. With a 23-9 record in the regular season, he finished with the best record in the Eastern Conference, winning the G League Coach of the Year award in the process.
An NCAA champion on the bench
A long-time finalist for the position of Pistons coach, Kevin Ollie joins the Nets from the Overtime Elite program, where he has worked for the past two seasons. Before this experience with high school students, he had proven himself in the NCAA, spending 6 years on the UConn bench as head coach (2012-2018). During his time on the bench for the Huskies, he notably won the NCAA title in 2014. Jay Hernandez has spent the last five seasons in the ranks of the Hornets. Finally, Corey Vinson arrives in Brooklyn after spending the last three seasons with the Suns.
In the end, only three assistants managed to keep their place: Adam Caporn, Trevor Hendry and Ryan Forehan-Kelly within Jacque Vaughn’s staff.
