The match begins at a fairly slow pace, with two teams exchanging baskets (12-12). The Grizzlies are starting to take over with a Jaren Jackson Jr who reigns in defense in the key. Offensively, 3-point shots fall into it. This allows Memphis to have a 7-point lead at the end of the 1st quarter (34-27).
Despite a lot of desire at the start of the second quarter, Atlanta did not manage to pick up the score but still remained in contact (47-42). The return of Trae Young on the floor does not change anything, the Grizzlies are strong and maintain their advantage. Ja Morant’s teammates lead 61-56 at the break.
The Hawks return from the locker room with other intentions. On a 3-point shot, Trae Young allows his team to come back up to the Grizzlies (63-63). But now, under the leadership of a well-inspired Ja Morant, the Grizzlies widen the gap again (84-76). At the start of the 4th quarter, Memphis leads by 7 points (96-89).
The impressive David Roddy gives the Grizzlies a 9-point lead (112-103). The Hawks do not let go, and will ignite the last minutes. On a 3-point basket, Dejounte Murray allows his team to return to only 3 lengths (113-110). But opposite, the men of Taylor Jenkins are a cut above. Memphis wins 123-119.
WHAT YOU MUST REMEMBER
– The bad operation of the Hawks. With Chicago and Toronto’s respective successes, victory was imperative for Atlanta. But, Trae Young’s teammates never managed to ignite the game against the Grizzlies. Worse, they didn’t even really worry their opponent. With this defeat, the Hawks find themselves with a negative balance (37-38), and have only one victory ahead of Chicago, 10th (36-38).
– Seductive Grizzlies. Already qualified for the playoffs, there is no question of slowing down at the end of the regular season for Memphis. The 2nd from the West moved to the 8th from the East, and the least we can say is that Ja Morant and his team enforced logic. In addition to having been the best team on the field, the Grizzlies produce very good basketball. Defensively, Jaren Jackson Jr is monstrous. In attack, the ball circulates very well with everyone biting into the apple. From Ja Morant to David Roddy via Desmond Bane, Tyus Jones or Luke Kennard, everyone participates.
