It was a very annoyed Bob Myers who appeared in front of the press. The GM of Golden State confirmed the altercation between Draymond Green and Jordan Poole, however, assuring that everyone was fine and that the interior had apologized for this punch to his teammate, to the team.
Jordan Poole also trained normally, while Draymond Green stayed away.
Bob Myers then explained that the Warriors will handle the penalty internally, but Draymond Green shouldn’t miss a game and the maximum financial penalty for this type of issue is $50,000.
But why did the situation degenerate between the two men? There were rumors of ‘trashtalking’ about contract situations, with Draymond Green and Jordan Poole both eligible for a contract extension at Golden State, but Bob Myers says he didn’t see any of that, and that if he did not expressly hear what his two players said, he has no reason to believe that it was different from the usual “trashtalking” during the five-on-five disputed in previous practices.
For the leader, this kind of episodes happens from time to time in professional sports teams but, now that the information has leaked, he must manage it in a public way.
Steve Kerr also explained that Draymond Green should also be absent on Friday, before returning to the group on Saturday. For Bob Myers, the incident should not have any long-term consequences, even if he readily admits that it is not ideal and that it will still be necessary to heal a few wounds.
