Four years ago, Hugo Besson had launched his professional career under the colors of Saint-Quentin (Pro B) by achieving a success for his very first outing on the floor of Fos-sur-Mer, with 28 points including an incredible 6/6 at 3-points in the last quarter.
The son of Jean-Paul Besson has come a long way since he played for Australia and the New Zealand Breakers before being drafted by the Bucks. Despite a stint in Summer League, he has never set foot on an NBA floor, but he has become a real “globetrotter” with a stint in France with Victor Wembanyama's Metropolitans 92, Serbia (KK FMP), Italy (Varese) and therefore Turkey this season, under the jersey of Manisa. A team which competes in the BCL and where he notably teams up with Saben Lee and Javon Freeman-Liberty, and soon Brodric Thomas.
On the podium of the best scorers of the championship
After starting the season with six defeats in the league, Manisa won his first victory this weekend on the floor of Yoan Makoundou's Türk Telekom, and Hugo Besson had a lot to do with it by signing his career record at 37 points to 7 /10 at 3-points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists to allow his team to win 85-80!
However, Türk Telekom still led by 7 points 8 minutes from the end (64-57), a moment chosen by Hugo Besson to catch fire by scoring 18 of his team's last 28 points. A performance which places him on the podium of the best scorers in the championship with 20.7 points per game, behind Yannick Franke and Jordan Nwora.
Unlike Yoan Makoundou, Hugo Besson is however not part of Frédéric Fauthoux's first list to participate in the qualifying matches for Eurobasket 2025 with the French team, against Cyprus.
