After just one season in the NBA, spent in Sacramento, Sasha Vezenkov therefore made the decision to leave the United States to return to Europe and OlympiakosReleased from his contract by the Raptors, the player was so determined to cross the Atlantic that he gave up the remainder of his contract, i.e. $6.7 million.
It's not nothing, but the 28-year-old Bulgarian will quickly find his feet, given the salary he will receive in the Greek club. Indeed, he signed for five seasons and 18.5 million euros (net of taxes), or 3.7 million per season.
It is simply the second biggest contract in the history of Olympiakos, after the 20 million (over three years) offered to Josh Childress, then a Hawks player, in 2008. Consequently, Sasha Vezenkov will logically be one of the highest paid players in Europe.
The proof is in looking at the figures from last season. In 2023/24, the highest-earning player on the continent was Shane Larkin, with his four million a year with Anadolu Efes.
