How will the Celtics replace Robert Williams?

Even though he has often been injured or diminished, Robert Williams III was an essential element in Boston for several seasons, his presence in the back curtain bringing a lot.

But sent to Portland to bring in Jrue Holiday, the pivot is no longer there. Therefore, the question arises: how to replace it? Should we use Al Horford or Kristaps Porzingis at center?

“It all starts with Luke Kornet”answers Joe Mazzulla for Mass Live. “He was good last season. He’s an underrated player and I think many don’t realize how effective he is. He is always well placed in defense and fair in attack. He sets good screens and can defend well. So with what he did last year, we’re going to lean on Luke a lot. »

“We have eight or nine starters”

For the first preseason match, against Philadelphia, the Boston coach left Luke Kornet on the bench and aligned a Horford – Porzingis duo in the racket. But before this meeting, he warned that it was only the beginning of the experiments.

“We should not draw any conclusions from this”he warned. “We have eight or nine starters. And that’s one of the strengths of our team. Last year, when there were absentees, we managed to win. The season will bring its share of challenges and opportunities. We have a lot of good players. Whether I play one here or the other there, we must above all be ready and know that each decision taken is the most judicious one to allow us to win. »

Joe Mazzulla has other options inside, off the bench, with Oshae Brissett and perhaps recently signed Wenyen Gabriel. But each time, this will force the Celtics to play small since the first measures 2m01 and the second 2m06. We are therefore far from Kornet’s 2m18, even if Porzingis’ 2m21 already makes it possible to resolve some problems for the major five.
