“Old-fashioned” pivot since it focuses primarily on setting screens, rebounding, intimidation and shooting the key, Nick Richards has proven its usefulness since the arrival of Steve Clifford, by being active in the fundamentals of the position. The departure of Mason Plumlee during the season and the injury of Mark Williams put him back in the spotlight, and his activity convinced Charlotte to secure her future while position 5 was heading towards the end of the season as a “free agent”, reaching the end of its rookie contract.
The deal is for a three-year, $15 million extension, which looks like a “win-win” deal, as the Hornets secures his presence at a lower cost ($5 million per season) with the prospect of continuing to develop it.
Author of a good performance against the “big guys” from Cleveland ten days ago, Nick Richards also averaged 9.4 points, 9.4 rebounds and 2.4 blocks in his last five games. No doubt Charlotte would sign with both hands if he managed to maintain these standards next season.
